What can I do to prevent drowning?
• A young child can drown in a very small amount of water, like a bucket or tub of water. Empty baby pools when not in use.
• A young child can also drown in the toilet. Always keep the seat lid down and put a latch on it. Close the bathroom door or put a safety gate to block baby from entering.
• Never leave your child alone near water, not even for a second.
• Put fences around pools and spas.
• Teach your child how to swim or sign them up at your local YMCA. A child that knows how to swim can still drown.
• Teach your child not to go neat water alone.
• Teach your child to swim with an adult at all times.
